Working
the Abs
by
Stephen Holt
Abdominal
exercises do not burn the fat lying over your abs, do not slim
your waist and can even lead to serious problems including back
injury if performed too many times, too fast, or with sloppy form.
Pure
spinal flexion against resistance - which is what a standard crunch
is - has nothing to do with the way our abs actually work throughout
the day.
Performing
the abdominal exercises below will not and cannot eliminate the
fat around your waist - no individual exercise can.
However,
these abdominal exercises will help strengthen your abs to be
better prepared for the way they work for you in every day life.
Here's
the original version of Stephen Holt’s Woman’s Day (May
9, 2000) article.
